Most Westerners are!! Approximately 90% of Americans have a low pH. The pace of life, the concentration of acidic foods, stress, pollution and lack of gentle exercise means that the vast majority of people are overloaded.
The simple way to find out is by using litmus (or pH) paper to test your urine or saliva and to give you some idea of your acidity. This is not foolproof, however, because your body is always attempting to balance your acid and alkaline levels and could well be flushing out a load of acid at the time of the test. It is best to test several times over the day to get a more accurate reading.
There are a number of good books on how to become healthy on an alkaline diet. They also come with lists of acid and alkaline-producing foods.
Below are only some of the indications that you may be acidic and should have your pH tested.
- Kidney stones
- Headache
- Irregular breathing (breathing may become fast/shallow with frequent sighing)
- Dryness Skin
- Insomnia
- Lack of energy
- Nausea, vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Weak and easily broken fingernails
- Impact on the nervous system
